Rick Stein Expands Culinary Empire

Restaurateur, TV chef and seafood specialist Rick Stein has unveiled his latest proposition in Falmouth in the form of a delicatessen.
This outlet will be the culinary expert and his partner Jill Stein’s third food-related venue on Events Square, preceded by the pair’s fish and chip shop and a seafood bar, both of which opened during the first quarter of the year.
In terms of the chef’s delicatessens, the latest represents the second such venture of its kind and will join an existing outlet in Padstow, allowing visitors to the store to purchase fine ingredients such as homemade mayonnaise, pesto and hummus, as well as other locally-sourced, delectable offerings, including Maynards Farm bacon, Tywardreath sausages and smoked salmon from Inverawe.
In addition to these culinary delights, there will be a selection of freshly baked goods, pastries and cakes, all of which are the fruit of Stein’s own patisserie business in Padstow. And to wash it all down, the delicatessen will apparently boast an array of wines and beers, including Chalky’s Bite, Stein’s own brand, in addition to Bark, the produce of a brewery in Rock.
And as to wider Cornish industry as a whole – which will have positive implications for the new catering business – prospects are looking up after having been hit by the property slump. According to research released by estate agent Knight Frank, the region’s second homes market has regained its momentum and even soared to record levels. At present, more than 250,000 British people own a second abode, with 5,000 said to be looking – many of these targeting Cornwall and the South West.
