Amadeus Secures 2012 Olympics Contract

Amadeus, the catering business of NEC Group, has confirmed itself one of the most sought after contracts of the 2012 Olympic Games, catering for up to an anticipated 100,000 people a day, according to reports.

As such, the catering enterprise will be supplying almost 50 per cent of the events scheduled to take place at the Olympic Park in its capacity as the official supplier of a range of foods.

Primarily taking place to the north and east of the park, Amadeus will be providing its catering services for events including velodrome cycling, handball, basketball, hockey and BMX.

As the most newly announced catering contract winner for the upcoming games, Amadeus is the fifth catering company of its kind to have secured an Olympic-sized contract for the event, positioning itself alongside international players such as Coca-Cola, Cadbury and McDonald’s – these being the only three to serve branded food products at the Olympics.

In addition to its current provision of catering services to the NEC, NIA and ICC, Amadeus also acts as the contract caterer at a variety of venues including Compton Verney and Kenilworth Castle, as well as other significant sporting events such as the Scottish Open.

Speaking of the achievement involved in securing the contract, chief executive for the NEC Group, Paul Thandi, commented, “This is huge and gives an indication of the ambition of our business.” He added that the group would not have been in a position to compete for the contract four years ago, but its investment, recruitment and strategic positioning have now made this possible.
