Light at the end of the tunnel for the catering industry

The depths to which the UK economy has sunk during the last two years have seen almost every industry suffer, including catering. However, as recession begins to disappear over the horizon, the industry is set to see a turnaround in fortunes in the coming years.
The recent downturn in the economy has had a direct and indirect impact upon the industry in a number of ways. A general reduction in expenditure saw people electing to stay at home in the evenings and therefore a decline in the number of wining and dining experiences.
As businesses looked to cut back their outgoings, various functions such as conferences, staff parties and luncheons were curtailed or cancelled altogether. Tourism also took a significant hit which further added to a decline in catering related businesses.
However, the green shoots of economic recovery will bring about a revival in trade, as tourism begins to increase and average Britons re-emerge from the refuge of their sofas.
A growth in trade will see an across-the-board rise in the disposable income of catering establishments and services. The catering equipment market can expect to see improved sales figures as the pent-up demand for replacement and refurbishment starts to be felt throughout the industry.
Considerable sums are likely to be spent on new and innovative equipment, particularly as caterers seek to replace worn and even damaged devices. The desire and indeed legislative pressure to reduce energy consumption for economic and environmental reasons, will further add to an increase in trade.
If you are seeing an increase and need some new catering equipment you’ve come to the right place.
