Everything you need for Doughnut Week

National Doughnut Week is scheduled to take place between the 9th and 16th of May. The seven day bonanza is a unique opportunity for bakeries, cafes, coffee shops and restaurants of all sizes and statures to promote the doughnut, whatever its variety.

And as always, we here at CS Catering Equipment are ready and prepared to ensure that you have everything that you’ll need to create and promote some truly delicious doughnuts. (Or as we called them in our house, “duffnuts”)

Far from instructing you capable business owners how to capitalise on this day, we’ve come up with a few ideas that are sure-fire ways to install a little bit of community spirit and spark some creativity amongst your staff and customers.

For the event why not run a ‘Design a Doughnut’ competition and put the winning creation into production for a limited run?

Alternatively, you could combine a doughnut with a coffee or tea and offer it as a celebratory combination deal, allowing you to make a sizeable margin on not one, but two products?

There are countless other ideas too, but hopefully those two titbits will get your creative juices flowing.

Doughnut Equipment

Doughnut fryers are, relatively speaking, rather inexpensive and due to these low initial costs, you should be able to make your money back on your purchase quickly.

Arguably the leading specialised doughnut fryer on the market at the moment is the Lincat DC04/N, a versatile countertop unit that features thermostatic temperature control, which operates between 100-190°C.

Constructed out of 430 grade stainless steel, this side-loading device is capable of cooking 12 doughnuts to perfection in one go, enabling you to create an efficient production line to serve your hungry customers. It has safety features too, such as a top temperature cut-out function and a front oil drain tap for safe and easy drainage.

The DC04/N is available for £704.99 (ex-vat)*.

Another must-have for the bakers of the world is a commercial grade planetary food mixer. Market leaders Kitchenaid need no introduction, but what does need mentioning is that all of our heavy duty Kitchenaid mixers are currently on special offer!

For a limited time we’re able to offer nearly 50% off the list price, so snap them up before it’s too late!

Finally, what about those all-important fillings?

Specially designed, the PME Doughnut Filling Nozzle makes the potentially tricky tasking of inserting jam, custard or chocolate into the heart of your delectable doughnut as easy as one two three!

Doughnut Recipes

Old Fashioned Doughnut

Tried, tested and authentically American

  • 448g flour
  • 230ml milk
  • 90g sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4tsp baking power
  • 2tsp vegetable shortening
  • 1¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp ground mace
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Mix together the shortening, egg yolks and sugar.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and spices into a separate bowl.
  • Mix these two together, whilst stirring in the milk. Keep the dough from sticking to the sides of the bowl.
  • Roll the dough out into ½ inch thick circles and leave to stand for 15 minutes.
  • Whilst the dough is resting, heat the fat (about 1 ½ inches worth) to 185°C
  • Cut a hole in the middle of the doughnut with a floured doughnut cutter (or knife if you don’t want to be super precise!)
  • Fry the doughnuts, about 90 seconds each side.
  • Drain excess fat and serve.
