The iconic serving dish for Indian cuisine, the Balti dish comes in an array of sizes and finishes, but always adheres to the same shape and style.

A pressed-steel wok and handles for manoeuvring of these usually hot dishes are an essential, and to make them safe for direct table service the now traditional wooden placemats can be purchased too.

Common in Britain since the 1970s the Balti dish comes from another popular Pakistani dish called the balti gosht, it's thought that the meal has been tailored to the more conservative British palette when introduced during the late 1970s, and has slowly become a staple in takeaways and restaurants across the country.
