Blue wine to shake up wine market

Blue wine

Bored of the plain old white and red wine that you usually drink?

Fancy something a little more colourful?

Well now you have your opportunity, Spainish start-up Gik has launched a blue wine in a bid to become the next big thing in the wine industry.

Created with the help of the University of the Basque country, the Spaniards have made the distinct colour difference by extracting a pigment — anthocyanin — from the skin of the grapes used, the simply by adding a bit of indigo dye ramped up the intense blue colour.

The wine is set to be available from retailers in the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands within the coming months. Priced at around £8 or €10, we are sure that this unconventional drop will be a massive hit in wine bars and pubs across the nation.

A mix of red and white grapes sourced from around the vineyards of Spain, this unconventional wine is aimed at younger consumers who want something slightly different from their wine drinking experience.

Gik recommend that the drink be served chilled due to the sweeter taste than traditional wines.

Going beyond the realm of the bog standard white or red, this is surely a step in the right direction to entice a new audience to the wine market. With such a resurgence in the craft beer market, proving to brewers that there are consumers who want quality over quality, we hope that this could start a winery revolution.

The brand have already began teasing the drink across a wide range of social media, with a large number of followers already looking to try the drink, we think the hype is definitely real for such an innovative product.

Whatever you think of the idea, you have to agree that this is at the very least a striking drink option!

It has even opened up a few more possibilities for cocktails, or remixes on traditional cocktails:
