The World’s first 3D printed food restaurant opens up shop

3D printed food

3D printing is not only aiming to enhance our everyday objects, with bespoke products and items already being readily available to the great British public right now.

But one British firm are looking to shake up the catering sector with the World’s first 3D printed food restaurant.

Featuring fully printed foodstuffs all operated by a team of gourmet chefs, the aptly named Food Ink is hoping to offer a truly digital dining experience…

After wowing crowds at the 3D Printing Food Conference in the Netherlands in April, the plan to create a revolutionary culinary experience has fast-forwarded to a Summer 2016 launch in London.

Using byFlow portable 3D printers, the team of gourmet chefs used their own original recipes (or should it be designs?) to create a wide range of dishes.

Anything that can be turned into an edible paste can potentially be used to create new dishes, which actually leaves very little when a commercial blender is around!

The dishes are created in exactly the same way as in the normal 3D printing process, with each layer printed on top of each other to ‘build’ the dish.

Once the original creation is ‘printed’, it will be served alongside traditional side dishes and garnishes that don’t utilise the printing method.

Not content with offering just printed food, much of the decor in the pop-up Gastropub has been created using the 3D printing process for a truly one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Check out this awesome video of the Food Ink kitchen in operation earlier this year in The Netherlands:

We are hoping that this could be the next-generation of cooking equipment, with downloadable recipes, and an almost endless possible number of combinations for the avid chef to explore.

The nine-course digital dining experience is due to come straight off the printing-press (see what I did there) at the end of July, heading to London from July 25th through to the 27th at Dray Walk, Shoreditch.
