The shelf life of caviar is typically a couple of months, though a couple of varieties can be frozen and can be safely stored for up to a year.

Best practices indicate that all caviar should be consumed on the day of opening, but when some of it remains it is advisable to gently flatten the caviar, cover in a plastic wrap and store in a refrigerator surrounded by crushed ice at a temperature that is just above freezing.

Turnip

“Hold on, man. We don’t go anywhere with ‘scary,’ ‘spooky,’ ‘haunted,’ or ‘forbidden’ in the title!”

The clocks have gone back and the gates of hell are about to be opened, unleashing an army of ghouls, zombies and witches that will take over our high streets and town centres before vanishing again just as quickly.

It is, of course, Halloween on Saturday but did you know that revellers are being encouraged to put down the pumpkin and turn to the turnip?

Inclement weather has seemingly caused a shortage of pumpkins which has led to English Heritage calling on people to turn the clocks even further back and take their knives and utensils to turnips instead.

Baguette

Excuse us for a minute or two – or perhaps even an hour or more – but we’re salivating over the record breaking news that has come out of Milan over the weekend.

In case you haven’t heard, French and Italian bakers combined their efforts to produce the world’s longest baguette.

It came in at 122 metres in length, or 400ft for those using imperial measurements.

A judge from the Guinness Book of World Records was on hand and (we guess) after a flick of an exceedingly long tape measure the sixty-odd bakers received the thumbs up.

Taking place this week and now in its eleventh year, Chocolate Week has become one of the nation’s favourite food-themed weeks. The whole seven day cocoa bonanza has seen tasting sessions and events take place across the length and breadth of the country and it all concludes this weekend with the annual Chocolate Show London, which will be held at the Olympia National Hall.

Organised by the duo of Sylvie Douce and Francois Jeantet, the celebration’s showpiece event originally took place in Paris. But due to the show’s popularity (and people’s natural affinity to chocolate) the Chocolate Show expanded to cities around the world including Moscow, New York, Tokyo, Cairo and London, attracting some 6.5 million visitors in the process.

That figure doesn’t surprise us because a lot of people like chocolate. [ Read More ]
