American fast food behemoth, McDonald’s is set to dramatically alter the recipes used within some of their most popular and iconic dishes in a bid to make their menu healthier.
The franchise announced that these changes will steadily roll out nationwide, with over 50% of the current menu being reworked to be made healthier.
As skepticism has grown about the nature of McDonald’s cooking and food practices has grown over the years, it makes sense for the brand to rethink it’s menu strategy, especially with changing attitudes to healthy food options.
It’s not clear whether this change is in response to the rise of more health conscious fast food restaurants and establishments that have cropped up into a busy food service space, or the change in consumer attitudes and wish for more transparency with regard to food production.
“A lot of people have assumptions about what McDonald’s food is,” Jessica Foust, director of culinary innovation at McDonald’s, told Business Insider The rhetoric being repeated by many within the industry, where there has long been a misconception that meals are made with artificial ingredients.
“We’re really cooking with real ingredients,” Foust added.

The high-fructose corn syrup currently being used to make burger buns will now be replaced with butter. This means that the signature Big Mac, cheeseburgers and McChicken sandwiches are in line to be affected by this change.
It’s not only the burgers that are set to change, McDonald’s are set to eliminate the use of preservatives within their iconic chicken nuggets, eggs and pork patties.
This change comes just over a year after the company made the decision to only use antibiotic free chicken.
After years of complaints over the usage of high fructose corn syrup and artificial preservatives, McDonald’s have made the decision to change their well-known recipes.

“This is only the beginning,” McDonald’s USA President Mike Andres told reporters, who were invited to the company’s US headquarters. “We are a brand on the move and we are more customer-obsessed than ever before.”
Andres made hints that they are also planning on making changes to the iconic Big Mac next year, but did not elaborate.
The changes are set to roll-out worldwide within the next six months. We wonder if you will really be lovin’ it once these changes have been made?
