meat free week 2016 - get your veg out

Meat Free Week (1st-8th August 2016) is all about making the choice to eat less meat, care more and feel good.

Whilst there are ardent meat eaters amongst us, there are many of us that are choosing to eat meat less frequently and in-turn this decrease in red meat consumption has been proven to lower the risk of bowel cancer.

Are you up to the challenge?…

Initially started by a group of Aussies, Meat Free Week is now a global challenge open to all those wishing to decrease their reliance on meat for meals.

There a quite a few reasons to get involved and challenge yourself to not eating meat for a whole week.

Eating less meat has health benefits, environmental benefits and economic benefits. Not only that, but you often end up with a much more colourful plate!

For vegetarians and vegans, Meat Free Week provides a perfect opportunity to give friends and relatives a chance to try out their diet and the difficulties they face when eating out or even in some cases eating in!

It may seem a daunting prospect at first, but it always amazes people when they really delve into the sheer amount of delicious meat-free recipes and options there are.

Eating less meat can be a conscious choice due to animal welfare, with more and more people choosing free-range options and organic farmed produce, the issues surrounding animal cruelty and welfare are more prominent than ever.

You can even save a few quid by avoiding the beef, for the same price as a slab of meat, you can almost fill your basket with fresh fruit and vegetables. Bargain.

A meat-reduced diet might be for you or it might just be a way to test your mettle. Do you think you can manage 7 days without it?
