Britain’s frozen food industry is now worth a cool £8 billion, with business only set to increase in by around 1% to 2% over the next five years.
The drive for innovation and demand for convenience has seen the industry push for higher production outputs, with many consumers looking for ways to keep fresh fruit, vegetables and other produce for longer.
Foodservice industry growth is set to exceed 2%, with the current sector market valued at £2.3 billion. Which is a slightly lower figure than many would expect, but with a preference for fresh produce, frozen options are not preferred by many within the industry.
This actual and expected growth could offer significant growth opportunities for food manufacturers, with the food service industry innovating and using new techniques on a more regular basis.

With over 40% of the UK population now eating out once per week, there is even more avenue for growth for businesses to utilise the convenience and quality provided by frozen food.
Freezing food is one of the easiest and best ways to keep food fresh without needing to use additives or preservatives. If food is frozen quickly after being cultivated, it retains all of it’s flavour and loses no nutrients, vitamins and remains in perfect condition.
Retailers and those in the food service industry are relying more on frozen food, as food can be thawed and consumed as required or needed. The innovation in the frozen food industry and the increased demand are helping businesses save money and simultaneously reducing food waste.
Changing consumer views of the usage of frozen food has helped drive the increase in expenditure on pre-frozen produce, and affordable fresh produce is available direct to their doors without having to worry about quality.
