Christmas market catering

The upcoming festive period is one of the most profitable times of the year. Yes, there is the added stress of dealing with an influx of customers and seasonal menus but it’s a challenge that we all relish!

And so with the seasonal spirit we’re running down some of the must-have items and decorations that you’ll need over the coming months.

Baguette

Excuse us for a minute or two – or perhaps even an hour or more – but we’re salivating over the record breaking news that has come out of Milan over the weekend.

In case you haven’t heard, French and Italian bakers combined their efforts to produce the world’s longest baguette.

It came in at 122 metres in length, or 400ft for those using imperial measurements.

A judge from the Guinness Book of World Records was on hand and (we guess) after a flick of an exceedingly long tape measure the sixty-odd bakers received the thumbs up.

Taking place this week and now in its eleventh year, Chocolate Week has become one of the nation’s favourite food-themed weeks. The whole seven day cocoa bonanza has seen tasting sessions and events take place across the length and breadth of the country and it all concludes this weekend with the annual Chocolate Show London, which will be held at the Olympia National Hall.

Organised by the duo of Sylvie Douce and Francois Jeantet, the celebration’s showpiece event originally took place in Paris. But due to the show’s popularity (and people’s natural affinity to chocolate) the Chocolate Show expanded to cities around the world including Moscow, New York, Tokyo, Cairo and London, attracting some 6.5 million visitors in the process.

That figure doesn’t surprise us because a lot of people like chocolate. [ Read More ]

Cut Tourism VAT’s aims are pretty simple, though a more obvious and perhaps succinct statement would be that their stated intentions are pretty self-explanatory. And support for their movement is beginning to grow with political circles as the Liberal Democrats have become the first major party to back them.

During their recent party conference in the south-coast town of Bournemouth, the Lib Dems adopted Cut Tourism VAT’s proposed policy that VAT on domestic tourism should fall to 15%, down from the current 20% level it is at now.

Is cheese a super food?

The scientists over at Aarhus University in Denmark are certainly on our Christmas card list this year after a study that they conducted appears to suggest that cheese could well be the key to a reduction in obesity as well as kick-starting your metabolism.

Wallace was certainly onto something….

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to create something unique?

A Scottish distillery based on the small island of Islay has, and we must say that it’s something rather wonderful.

Ardberg Distillery sent a vial of unmatured malt to the International Space Station back in October 2011 under the premises of seeing how a sustained period of time in zero gravity would affect terpenes and the whisky’s taste and aroma.

Our favourite ice cream machines and accessories

icecream1

There were plenty of moments when I thought about diving behind the sofa last night during The Great British Bake Off, but nothing terrified us more than when Alvin and Ugne had some rather messy moments when making their ice cream.

Jam inside ice cream and toxic coloured desserts? It’ll never catch on.

I screamed. Did you scream?
