Facebook to add food ordering service

The social media giant, Facebook, is set to add food ordering services and bake them straight into the news feeds of users around the world.

Currently rolling out to users in the United States, customers will be able to order food straight from the pages of restaurants and takeaways that have signed up to be part of the service.

Could ordering food straight from Facebook allow for more of a tailored takeaway experience and open up new business opportunities?…

A beta feature at present, Facebook has signed exclusive deals with the online food service outlets, Delivery.com and Slice in the United States.

If the feature is planned for a UK roll-out, then it’s likely that deals will have to be cut with online ordering stalwarts JustEat and HungryHouse here in the UK.

This new addition opens up a way for Facebook users to order from eatery menus direct from their Facebook page, the only caveat is that you must be listed (in the United States) with Delivery.com or Slice.

Whilst many businesses are listed on the online ordering services here in the UK, there are of course many that do not offer this function.

Having this direct access from Facebook might open up the possibility for technophobes to begin offering true online ordering to the masses.

1.7 billion monthly active users having direct access to your menu, this could be a huge business opportunity to drum up orders via the social media site.

“We’re introducing some new ways for people to take action faster once they’ve found something they want to do or a place they want to go,” Facebook said.

“Today we’re starting to introduce a variety of new features that help you use those connections to discover new things in the world around you, decide what to do or where to go, and connect with local businesses in easier and faster ways.”

So with all this information in mind, can you see an avenue for growth into the social media space in your business?…
